Maureen FitzSimons, better known as Maureen O'Hara in America, was an exceptional child. The traits she displayed were normal for a child born in Ireland, surrounded by gifted parents as well as a loving and supportive family. Maureen was welcomed into this cherished refuge located in Ranelagh, Ireland on August 17th, 1920. Marguerita FitzSimons was an accomplished contralto. Charles FitzSimons was a successful businessman from Dublin who also controlled a portion of the Irish Shamrock Rovers soccer team. Maureen FitzSimons was the child of Charles FitzSimons. Peggy, Florrie Charles B. Fitzsimons Margot Fitzsimons complete this wonderful family. Maureen was a star athlete and enjoyed playing rough sports. The passion for sports was matched by an unnatural talent for performing. She was awarded nearly all Feis Award for Theatre and Drama the country could provide. Her acceptance at the Abbey Theater by age 14 She then continued to pursue her dream of opera as well as classical theater and singing.
